All commercial motor vehicles with a gross weight of 26,001 lbs or more must be registered with New Mexico before traveling into or through the state. If not registered, you may pay your way through at the port. It is not cost effective to pay at the port unless you travel through New Mexico only once or twice per year. We recommend obtaining credentials; paying at the port is costly.

You are not required to carry your registration receipt on board your power unit(s); however, we will provide you with a receipt and we advise our clients to place a photocopy in each unit.

Once we have established a Weight Distance Tax account in New Mexico for you, quarterly reports must be filed and mileage tax, paid. If our agency is filing your IFTA taxes, we will also file New Mexico mileage reports for no extra charge.
